Costa Pontina: borghi e mare
Award-winning beaches, white villages, and the Parco del Circeo along the Tyrrhenian coast.
Anzio and Nettuno: history and coastal charm
The journey along the Costa Pontina begins in Anzio, famous for its Blue Flag beaches and the evocative archaeological site of the Villa di Nerone, which overlooks the sea. Continuing south, you reach Nettuno, where the medieval village enclosed within fortified walls offers a maze of picturesque alleys and the majestic Forte Sangallo. It is the ideal spot for a sunset stroll along the seafront.
The Parco Nazionale del Circeo and San Felice
Continuing along the coast, the landscape changes radically as you enter the Parco Nazionale del Circeo. Here, Mediterranean vegetation meets sandy dunes that stretch to Sabaudia. The Circeo promontory, shrouded in the myth of the sorceress Circe, dominates the view. Reaching the village of San Felice Circeo allows you to explore the perched historic center and enjoy a breathtaking view that spans as far as the Isole Pontine. Do not miss the chance to visit the Grotta delle Capre, a place of rare geological beauty.
Sperlonga: the white village by the sea
The itinerary ends in Sperlonga, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The town appears as a tangle of white houses climbing a rocky spur overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Beyond the crystal-clear beaches, a visit to the Villa di Tiberio is a must, an ancient Roman imperial residence that includes an archaeological museum and a natural cave of extraordinary historical value. The narrow stairways of the village, amidst flowers and sea views, offer a magical and timeless atmosphere.
Practical tips
The Costa Pontina is easily accessible by car, allowing you to stop freely at panoramic points along the Via Litoranea. The best time to enjoy the beaches and villages without the summer crowds is between late May and June, or during the month of September, when temperatures are mild and the atmosphere is more relaxed. Be sure to taste the local food and wine products, in particular the fresh fish and the typical wines of the Agro Pontino area.
